Banner 1 Image Source:  CDNO.VOX-CDN.COM As if whipping the arch rivals Red Sox twice wasn’t enough for the Yankees, they went ahead and scripted a back from the dead victory, last night (28th April). The Kodak moment of the night was when Matt Holliday nailed the Yankees’ fifth homer in the 10th innings to complete a wild 14-11 victory over the Orioles. Now, for the first time since August 2015, these young Pinstripers have brought themselves into an unlikely contention for the AL East lead. Also, the rolling Yanks have now triumphed 13 of their last 16 games – further highlighted by successive pitching gold by Masahiro Tanaka and Luis Severino earlier this week against Bosox. Banner 2 Image Source:  THENYPOST.FILES.WORDPRESS.COM Although, things were different a month ago, still in the transition, or ready to ascend was the question plastered all over the Yankees’ proverbial forehead when the 2017 MLB seasons kick-started on April 02, 2017. Banner 3 Image Source:  CDN.FANSIDED.COM There were genuine concerns! The roster had a much diverse look – with youngsters outnumbering the veterans – and many what-ifs surrounding The Bronx Bombers. However, about a month into the season and after last night’s heroics against Baltimore, the Yankees are 14-7 and are tied for AL East’s top spot. Moreover, this is not a smoke screen. There are authentic reasons, and the beast Aaron Judge is one solid one – the young gun has 9 home runs, 18 RBI and an AL-leading .718 slugging % – and not to mention his par-excellence fielding. Crucially, Judge’s willow-wielding is doing a fantastic masking job for the struggling first baseman Greg Bird. Banner 4 Image Source:  MEDIA.NJ.COM The Yankees bullpen is ridiculously loaded with talent. This bullpen ranks second in the majors in WHIP (1.03) and ERA (2.02), and first in rivals’ OPS (.525). Additionally, the Yanks’ starting pitching is better than publicized because Masahiro Tanaka is a true ace. Michael Pineda and Luis Severino have returned to their purple hot form, while rookie Jordan Montgomery has been a refreshing surprise. Lastly, Five Yank relievers (Betances, Chapman, Tyler Clippard, Adam Warren, and Jonathan Holder) are averaging more than 10 K’s per nine innings.
